About

Hello! My name is Matthew or Matt for short and I’m going to walk you through a little bit about who I am!

I was born and raised in a smaller town about 45 minutes north of Chicago, Illinois, known as Libertyville, Illinois. I grew up in my family home with my dad, and my younger brother John, as well as my first dog named Mack. He was a soft-coated wheaten terrier and just an all-around joy to have around my home. I grew up playing baseball, football, volleyball, swimming, and some martial arts mixed in there as well, but ultimately moving into high school, committed my time to honing my craft in volleyball and football.

Coming to college, I committed to Drake University based out of Des Moines, Iowa to study accounting originally. After a couple of months, I realized that accounting was not at all something I’d want to do, and made the switch to management and organizational leadership. I would argue that’s one of the best choices I’ve made since coming to Drake. Shortly thereafter I immediately got involved in helping start the men’s club volleyball team here on campus with a couple of friends so that I could continue to play at some level while here in school. We’ve traveled to numerous different schools including Iowa State, Creighton, and the University of Iowa, and even went to our conference tournament in St. Louis to name a few places. I’m super excited to see where my Junior season takes me this upcoming spring in 2024.

Rounding out my sophomore year, I knew I wanted to do more my junior year and decided to see if there was a position available for me as a manager for the Drake Women’s Volleyball on campus. I had been helping out at games previously through ball rolling and through that was able to get to talking with some of the coaches on the staff and just threw out that I would be open to helping in any way possible with practices or games if the team felt they may want some extra assistance. After a short interview during the summer, I was given the opportunity I was looking for and was offered a position as a manager. I would help with practices, help keep stats during games, and do some housekeeping things for the coaches on the side as well. It was an awesome experience and I’m excited for next year having a better understanding of the schedule and what’s expected of me.

After graduation and my time here at Drake comes to a close, I’m looking forward to finding a job in a hands-on management field. Whether it be something like construction management or maintenance management, I know I want to work with people and get my hands dirty in the process. I don’t have a specific company in mind just yet, but I’d love to stay local to Des Moines and surrounding areas as I have established this place as my new home.

Other than that, thanks for learning more about me, and thanks for checking out my website!
